DIN 7526: German Forging Tolerance Standard
DIN 7526 is the tolerance standard most European buyers cite when ordering forgings from India. Its class E and class F designations appear on drawings worldwide, and understanding what each permits prevents both over-specification and rejected shipments.
DIN 7526 is the German standard for steel drop forging tolerances. Class F is the fine grade and class E the ordinary commercial grade, with limits tabulated against forging weight covering dimensions, die mismatch, flash residue, straightness and draft.

Class E versus Class F
Class F is the fine tolerance grade; class E is the ordinary or commercial grade. The practical difference on a mid-sized forging is often only a few tenths of a millimetre, but holding it demands tighter billet weight control, more frequent die inspection and shorter die service intervals.

What It Actually Controls
Length and width across the parting line, thickness, mismatch between die halves, flash residue after trimming, straightness, centre-to-centre distances and draft angle deviation. Each is tabulated against forging weight and the material's forgeability group.

European drawings frequently arrive marked DIN 7526-F on every dimension by default rather than by intent. We review those drawings and flag where class E would serve identically, which regularly removes cost with no functional loss.
