A fabricated bracket puts a weld exactly where the arm meets the base — the highest stress location in the part. A forged bracket has continuous material there. That is why fatigue-loaded brackets migrate to forging as volumes rise.
Fabricated brackets carry a weld heat-affected zone and residual tensile stress at the arm-to-base junction, which is the highest stress location and the usual crack origin. Forged brackets have continuous grain-flowed material there, and become cheaper above roughly 1,000 to 2,000 pieces per year.

The Weld Sits Where Stress Peaks
Welding leaves a heat-affected zone with altered microstructure and residual tensile stress, usually at the arm-to-base junction. Under vibration and reversed loading, cracks start there. Forging places continuous, grain-flowed material at the same location.

Consistency and Labour
Fabrication quality depends on the welder, the fit-up and the day. Forged brackets are identical piece to piece, and labour content per part collapses once tooling exists — which is the real economic argument at volume.
The Crossover Point
Below roughly one to two thousand pieces a year, fabrication usually wins because there is no die cost. Above that, forging typically wins on labour, consistency and performance together. Heavy machining or fatigue criticality pushes the crossover lower.
