Shaping Without a Cavity
The operator manipulates the workpiece between blows, drawing it out, upsetting it or stepping it down. Geometry comes from that manipulation rather than from tooling, which is why open die suits shafts, discs, blocks and rings but not complex three-dimensional shapes.

Where It Is Indispensable
