Forging vs Sand Casting
Sand casting is the cheapest route to a large, complex metal shape, and India's foundry clusters make it widely available. Its weakness is consistency: porosity, inclusions and variable properties are managed rather than eliminated.
Sand casting produces very large and complex shapes at low tooling cost but carries porosity risk and greater piece-to-piece variation. Forging gives fully sound material with directional grain flow and far better consistency, at higher tooling cost and with geometric limitations.

Size and Shape Freedom
Sand casting has essentially no upper size limit and handles hollow sections, complex housings and intricate external form. Forging is constrained by press or hammer capacity and by what metal can be made to flow into a die.

Consistency Is the Real Difference
Two sand castings from the same pattern can differ in soundness depending on gating, cooling and mould quality. Forgings from the same die vary far less, which is why safety-critical and fatigue-loaded parts specify forging even where casting would be cheaper.
Finish and Machining
Sand cast surfaces are rough and dimensionally loose, so machining allowances are generous. Forgings are closer to net shape with better surfaces, reducing machining time — a saving that often offsets the higher raw process cost.

In fatigue and impact, yes. Static compressive strength can be closer, but soundness and consistency still favour forging.
