Hardenable Stainless
Roughly 12% chromium with enough carbon to form martensite means 410 responds to quench and temper like an alloy steel while retaining corrosion resistance — the combination pump shafts and valve stems need.

Limits of Its Corrosion Resistance
410 resists fresh water, steam and mild atmospheres, not chlorides or acids. Where seawater or aggressive chemicals are involved, an austenitic or duplex grade is required despite the loss of hardenability.
