Forged Nipples & Adapters

Adapters and nipples join threads that were never meant to meet. They are small, high-pressure components where thread accuracy is the entire function.

Short answer

Forged nipples and adapters join different thread forms in high-pressure piping, in classes 3000#, 6000# and 9000#. Thread accuracy is their entire function, so NPT, BSP, metric and API threads are gauge verified with go/no-go gauges before dispatch.

Thread Accuracy Is the Product

An adapter's whole purpose is transferring pressure between two thread forms. NPT, BSP, metric and API threads each have their own gauging, and a thread outside tolerance leaks regardless of how much sealant is applied.

  • NPT, BSP, metric, API threads
  • Gauge verified go/no-go
  • Sealing by flank interference
  • Pressure ratings to 9000#

Material and Wall Thickness

Wall thickness must match the pressure class of the system, and material must suit the medium. A stainless adapter in a carbon steel line creates a galvanic couple that corrodes preferentially at the joint.

People also ask

Why do threaded fittings leak?

Thread form outside tolerance, damaged flanks, insufficient engagement, or relying on sealant rather than flank interference to seal. Sealant supplements the thread; it does not replace it.

What is the difference between NPT and BSP threads?

NPT is an American taper thread with a 60-degree form; BSP is a British thread with a 55-degree form, available in taper and parallel. They are not interchangeable and will leak if mixed.

Do you supply stainless adapters?

Yes, in F304 and F316 with segregated handling to prevent carbon contamination.

FAQ

Questions Answered

Are threads gauge verified?

+

Yes, with go/no-go ring and plug gauges, recorded on the inspection report.

What thread forms do you produce?

+

NPT, BSP, metric and API threads across sizes from 1/8 inch to 4 inch.

Can stainless adapters be used in carbon steel lines?

+

They can, but the galvanic couple accelerates corrosion at the joint. Match materials where possible.
