The finisher impression is the final die cavity that gives the forging its finished shape and dimensions. It is cut oversize by the shrinkage allowance, so the part measures correctly once cooled.

Cut Oversize by Design
Steel contracts roughly 1.2–1.5% as it cools from forging temperature. The finisher cavity is cut larger by that amount so the cooled forging lands on nominal. Miscalculating it puts every piece systematically out of tolerance.
Wear Changes Dimensions Over Time
The finisher wears with every strike, gradually growing and softening detail. Planned die maintenance and periodic dimensional checks catch that drift before parts fall outside tolerance.
