Forged Axle Shafts

An axle shaft transmits full drive torque while absorbing shock every time a wheel drops into a pothole or a plough bites hard ground. Upset forging creates the flange without cutting through the grain, so torque capacity stays where the design calculated it.

Integral Flange by Upsetting

The flange is gathered from bar rather than machined out of oversized stock. Grain flows radially into the flange and axially along the shaft, giving the flange-to-shaft junction — the classic axle failure point — its fatigue resistance.

  • Upset forged integral flange
  • Radial grain flow into the flange
  • Rolled or cut splines
  • Induction hardened bearing seats

Splines and Torque Transfer

Involute splines are cut or rolled to the customer's specification and gauge checked. Rolled splines carry work-hardened flanks that outlast cut splines under reversing torque, which matters on agricultural duty cycles.

03

Heat Treatment and Straightness

Induction hardening on bearing seats and spline areas, followed by straightening and final grinding, delivers a shaft that runs true and resists both wear and torsional fatigue.

People also ask

Is the axle flange forged or welded?

Forged integrally by upsetting. Welded-flange axles have a joint at the highest-torque location and are not supplied for drive applications.

Are axle splines cut or rolled?

Either, to your specification. Rolled splines carry work-hardened flanks that outlast cut splines under reversing torque.

FAQ

Questions Answered

Is the flange forged or welded?

+

Forged integrally by upsetting. We do not supply welded-flange axles for drive applications — the weld becomes the weak point under reversing torque.

Can you produce splines to a customer gauge?

+

Yes, splines are produced to the specified standard and verified with go/no-go spline gauges.

What lengths can you handle?

+

300 mm to 1,800 mm, covering tractor half-shafts through to trailer axles.

Do you supply axle shafts induction hardened?

+

Yes, on bearing seats and spline areas, with hardness and case depth reported.
