Fullering
Fullering and edging are the operations most people never hear about, yet on long parts like connecting rods they determine whether the finisher can fill at all.
Fullering reduces the cross-section of a billet in a localised area, pushing metal lengthwise along the workpiece. It is a distribution operation performed before blocking, on parts where metal must move substantially along the length.

What It Achieves
On a part with a thin centre and heavy ends — a connecting rod is the classic example — metal must be driven out of the middle toward the ends before the finisher closes. Fullering does exactly that, thinning the centre and lengthening the workpiece.
Where It Sits in the Sequence
Fullering comes first in a multi-stage sequence, followed by edging to gather metal where sections are heavy, then blocking, then finishing. Each stage moves metal closer to its final distribution.
