Brick & Tile Machinery Forging

Clay and ceramic bodies are abrasive by nature. Machinery processing them wears continuously, and component life is measured in tonnes processed rather than hours run.

Short answer

Forged brick and tile machinery components — press parts, extruder augers and cutting mechanisms — face continuous silica abrasion with occasional shock from foreign objects. Hardened and hard-faced working surfaces over tough cores extend intervals between rebuilds.

Continuous Abrasion

Clay carries silica and other abrasive minerals. Extruder augers, press components and cutting mechanisms wear steadily, and hard-facing or hardened working surfaces are what extend intervals between rebuilds.

  • Silica abrasion is continuous
  • Life measured in tonnes processed
  • Hard-faced working surfaces
  • Planned rebuild intervals

Press Loads and Shock

Tile and brick presses apply high compaction loads cyclically. Press components carry that load repeatedly, and foreign objects in the clay body deliver occasional shock that a fully hardened part would not survive.

People also ask

What causes extruder auger wear?

Silica and abrasive minerals in the clay body abrading the flight edges continuously. Hard-facing the leading edges extends life substantially.

Why not fully harden press components?

Foreign objects in the clay deliver shock loads that would crack a fully hardened part. A hard working surface over a tough core survives both abrasion and shock.

How close are you to the Morbi ceramic cluster?

About 60 km, allowing same-day delivery and rapid response to urgent breakdown requirements.

FAQ

Questions Answered

Do you supply the Morbi ceramic cluster?

+

Yes, press components, augers, shafts and wear parts, with Morbi about 60 km from our plant.

How is auger wear reduced?

+

Hard-facing on the leading flight edges plus hardened surfaces, matched to the abrasiveness of the clay body.

Can you improve our current wear part life?

+

Often. Send a worn sample and we assess the wear mechanism before proposing grade and hardness changes.
