Reverse Engineering of Forged Parts

Obsolete machines, discontinued spares and imported components with no available drawing are an everyday problem in Indian industry. We take the physical sample, measure it, identify the material and produce a manufacturable drawing and a forged replacement.

01

Measure, Identify, Model

The sample is dimensioned feature by feature, hardness tested and spectro analysed to establish the actual grade rather than a guess. Wear is compensated by referencing mating dimensions, and the reconstructed geometry is modelled in 3D and issued as a drawing for your approval.

  • Full dimensional capture of the sample
  • Spectro analysis for grade identification
  • Hardness and microstructure check
  • 3D model and approval drawing
02

Improving on the Original

Reverse engineering is a chance to correct the reason the part failed. A stress-raising sharp corner becomes a proper fillet; a machined-from-bar part becomes a forging with grain flow along the load path; a marginal grade is upgraded to one with better fatigue performance.

Typical Turnaround

Drawing and material report within five to seven working days of receiving the sample. Forged samples follow the standard die lead time, or immediately on the open die line for one-off replacements where no die is justified.

People also ask

How long does reverse engineering take?

A drawing and material report within five to seven working days of receiving the sample.

Do I own the drawing you create from my sample?

Yes. The drawing is issued to you and can be used elsewhere; customer parts and drawings are treated as confidential.

FAQ

Questions Answered

Can you make a part with no drawing at all?

+

Yes. A physical sample is enough — we generate the drawing, and it is issued to you for approval before any tooling is cut.

How do you know which steel the original was?

+

Optical emission spectrometry gives the actual chemistry, and hardness plus microstructure confirm the heat treatment condition.

Will the replacement fit exactly?

+

We compensate for wear by referencing mating dimensions and, where possible, ask for the mating part or its dimensions to verify fit.

Is reverse engineering charged separately?

+

A nominal engineering charge applies, and it is typically adjusted against the production order.
