The F-Grade System
F1 through F91 cover ferritic alloy grades for elevated temperature; F304, F316, F321 and F347 cover austenitic stainless; F44, F51, F53 and F55 cover duplex and super-austenitic. The prefix F simply denotes a forging.

Mandatory Heat Treatment
Each grade carries a required heat treatment — solution annealing for austenitic grades, normalising and tempering for ferritic alloys, with defined minimum temperatures and quench requirements. A grade supplied without its specified treatment does not meet A182 however good the chemistry looks.
Intergranular Corrosion Testing
For stainless grades in corrosive service, ASTM A262 practice E testing verifies resistance to intergranular attack. We arrange it where the specification calls for it, with certified results referenced to the heat number.
